Pathatic fallacy

pathetic fallacy
is the description of inanimate natural objects in a manner that endows them with human emotions, thoughts, sensations, and feelings. (in literary criticism)

It took me 2 years to know these words. Somedays i think I understand what they mean.

Seems like an age away, those days. Back when it defined life.
Its no longer tangible, just a very fond intangible.

Tuesday

Sarky Singtel

Singtel landline automated messages are sarky, i swear.

'This is a Singtel Announcement Service, the number you have just called is not in use.
Thankyou.'

You can hear that woman's eyes narrow as she says thank you, like you weren't wise enough
to dial the right number you mis-dialing mis-informed ignorant wretch. Followed by a pregnant pause just to remind you that she's doing you the favour, then she repeats herself in that same cold voice then hangs up.

Its an automated service i've been hearing for the longest time and it has never been pleasant.

like...
Starhub apologises (5 times in fact!)

M1 asks that you please check the number and thanks you

Singtel Mobile at least sounds warm

The landlines however need a lesson in being nice, it not my fault people never get their numbers right. sheesh i'm sorry i dialled... bitch

Monday

Elections

With the elections out of the way there are loads of angry bloggers out there.
(then again the content would just be happy and not talk about it)
MICA begins to trawl the web and reconsiders the blogging situation,
fears of repercusion begin again.

hello MICA-guy! i hope you had a good lunch break!

I say the apathy will win out again and in a years time, who will still talk about this over coffee? who remember standing in muddy rallies standing on the train after coming to terms with october's transport fare increase? Gomez? is that a muppet? oh is she a singer?

Singaporeans aren't as deep as we set ourselves out to be. The goverment started it and certainly won't stop it, driven not by hunger for power but by their own fears and uncertainty in bringing Singapore into the world's churning economy. Betrayed by our own shallowness in the implict 'if you can't beat them buy them' pragmatism that has extended to our international relations (take a bow GLCs!) to foreign talent (hey expats!) to local politics (Progress Package!) to education (study hard, be super-scale son!). Its not wrong, its just an old solution to finding a global significance for Singapore. A solution that is also very difficult to explain to an electorate that is facing a harsh reality and doesn't speak in jargon of economy.

But its alright, the investors are happy, the goverment is stable and the cost of living is just going to keep rising.

We'll just forget, until 2011.

Saturday

parking your dissent

Only at an opposition rally will people park like this and
along the exppress way and ignore the Cops.
